I went to optometry school at NECO in Boston, I graduated in 2009. For my first six years, I worked as an associate, learning the background of private practice and truly what it meant to be a private practice OD. But even in private practice, it felt like I was rushing through my patients, not being able to explain to the best of my ability.
When my daughter was born in 2013 and I was still working in the same way, I knew it was time to make a change. I wanted a true family eye care practice, where my family could be a part of it and I could grow with my patient families as well. Shortly afterwards is when I decided to open my practice, called Eye Care for You. Eye Care for You opened in early 2015 and I created it to be welcoming and family oriented. But as the insurance checks started rolling in after sometimes 90+ days, I started getting nervous. Now my previous employer was excellent in insurance billing, spent hours learning the system. But when I really got to see the insurance “behind the scenes” it became clear that I couldn’t continue my practice in the way that I loved, while being a part of the system. So what to do? Did I want to work for myself or still work for someone else, this time the insurance companies?
I consider myself a problem solver….so I decided to try to change the system.
Now that I know it works, I want to tell you how to do it successfully. Patients deserve to have eye doctors who love what they do and can help improve their lives and vision. It’s up to us to help them, and if we can do that and love going to “work” each day, why not? It can be done, and I can show you how.
